Joni Kristin Doherty, MD, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC).
She completed her Otolaryngology Residency at USC, followed by a Neurotology Fellowship at the House Clinic in Los Angeles. During fellowship, she started research at the House Institute studying the biology of vestibular schwannomas (VS; a.k.a., acoustic neuroma) and, after fellowship, was recruited to the Otolaryngology faculty at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) as clinician scientist. She secured NIH funding to further study VS biology and behavior, while doing several surgeries to remove these tumors. In 2010, she was recruited to the House Research Institute where she began the first FDA-regulated clinical drug trial for treating Neurofibromatosis 2-associated VS with molecular-targeted therapy. Dr. Doherty joined the faculty at Keck Medical Center of USC in August 2018.
