Research Associate, Delivery Innovation

Frequency Therapeutics (Nasdaq: FREQ) is a leader in the development of medicines designed to activate progenitor cells within the body to treat degenerative diseases. The company’s lead product candidate, FX-322, is a potential disease modifying therapy designed to regenerate damaged auditory hair cells to improve hearing function. In a Phase 1/2 study of FX-322, the company observed clinically meaningful improvement in key measures of hearing function in patients with sensorineural hearing loss, the most common form of hearing loss. A Phase 2a study is anticipated to begin in Q4 2019. The Frequency progenitor cell activation (PCA) approach stimulates progenitor cells to create functional tissue and the company is researching an array of additional degenerative diseases where PCA may be applied, including a discovery program in multiple sclerosis.

The Research Associate, Delivery Innovation, is a laboratory-based position with tremendous learning potential. The successful candidate will play an important role in contributing to the development of novel delivery systems to enable the next generation of the company’s PCA platform.


  • Design and carry out experiments to develop novel polymer-based, small molecule delivery systems for otic and other routes of administration
  • Experimental scope includes pre-formulation, formulation, process development, and analytical characterization activities as needed
  • Operate independently and assist project scientists as needed to further team goals
  • Commitment to innovation, collaboration, and a passion for science in an exciting, fast-paced environment
  • Communicate ideas and data in team meetings and prepare written reports
  • Carry out work according to industry safety and performance standards, including keeping an electronic lab notebook and maintaining laboratory space and equipment.


  • BS or MS degree in Biology, Bio/Chem Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science or related field of study
  • Research experience with the formulation and characterization of innovative polymeric systems focused on the delivery of small molecules
  • Exceptional critical thinking, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and on cross-functional teams
  • Flexibility, ability and commitment to manage multiple competing priorities while meeting expected deadlines.
